Isolation Transformer

Isolation transformers are designed to transfer alternating current (AC) power from a source to connected equipment while electrically isolating the load from the power source. This galvanic isolation is primarily used for safety, ensuring protection against electric shock and safeguarding sensitive equipment.

By isolating the primary and secondary circuits, isolation transformers help suppress electrical noise, reduce interference, and enable safe power transfer between two circuits that must remain electrically separate.

Why Isolation Transformers Are Used
  • Prevent connected loads from generating harmful electrical harmonics
  • Block harmonics present on the distribution bus from reaching sensitive downstream equipment
  • Enable voltage matching when UPS output voltage differs from load requirements
  • Act as step-up or step-down voltage converters when required
